Why community groups?

At New City, we strongly believe that discipleship happens in community. At its core, this means that we were designed to follow Jesus in the context of relationships. Community Groups are intentional gatherings of 10-15 people (on average) that meet together once a week in homes across the Raleigh area to study the Bible together, pray for each other, and build authentic Christian community. When we are intentional to surround ourselves with others who share the same desire to pursue a relationship with God, we will experience the life-changing power of the Gospel.

Community Group FAQs

What happens in a Community Group?

Groups spend time each week building relationships with one another, discussing how to apply the sermon to our lives, and praying for each other.

Dinner or snacks often takes place during the group time as well.

When can I join a group?

You can sign up for a group at any time. Three times a year, our community groups take a break to rest before our next session of groups. If you sign up while groups are on a break, we will still get you plugged in so you’ll be ready to go for our next session.

What content do Community Groups study each week?

The content for our groups is sermon-based, so groups read and then discuss the passage from that week’s sermon and how it applies to their lives.

Even if you missed the service that Sunday, our community group discussions are still easy to participate in!

How are Community Groups led?

Each group has trained and experienced leaders that facilitate the discussion and communicate to the group through various mediums (ie: text, email, or other mobile application) throughout the week.

What time do Community Group meetings start, and how long do they last?

Group meeting days and times vary and generally last about an hour and a half to two hours deepending on the group.

Have kids and need help with childcare so you can attend your community group? New City is happy to help reimburse for childcare. Just let us know when you sign up for groups that you’ll need childcare and we can let you know how reimbursement works.

Lastly, it is important to us that you enjoy your group. If for any reason you’d like to switch to a different group, just let us know.

Do I need to re-sign up for more group for every session?

Once you are placed in a group, you do not need to sign up again for each new session of community group. You only need to sign up or register for groups if you are not yet in a group or would like to switch to another group.
